Know the Lais

“Making science an instrument of love for others, aiming at citizenship, social well-being and development of health in Brazil through innovation.” This is the mission of the Laboratory of Technological Innovation in Health (LAIS) of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte.

The idea was born of the restlessness of a small group of researchers who perceived the potentiality in combining the knowledge of the areas of Health, Engineering, Information Technology and Communication. Operating since March 2011, at the Onofre Lopes University Hospital (HUOL), LAIS is the first laboratory installed in a Brazilian hospital with the proposal to promote technological innovation in health.

Among its activities, are the projects of Bioengineering, Assistive Technologies, Health Informatics and Permanent Health Education, as well as publications of scientific articles in books and periodicals, result of the researches and dissertations carried out by the LAIS researchers.

However, the work done in the Laboratory is not restricted to Rio Grande do Norte State. Through national and international cooperation, LAIS has been strengthening the health system and developing projects with FIOCRUZ, the World Health Organization, the Ministry of Health, the Harvard School of Public Health, ABIMO (Brazilian Medical, Dental, Hospital and Laboratories Articles and Equipment), among others, based on the Sustainable Development Objectives (ODS) contained in Agenda 2030 of the United Nations.
